Acting The Crucible: Great Success!

We had a wonderful two night exploration of Arthur Miller's masterpiece: The Crucible.

I would like to do another two night seminar in January.  It's just a chance for actors to come together and brush up their chops using a variety of tools from Stanislavsky to Laban.

Please let me know if you're interested in participating. The cost is only $50 for two evenings of work. I would like to do scenes from Anthon Chekhov's Uncle Vanya.  The dates are up in the air--depending on your availability and scheduling at the Midvale Main Street Theatre.

Send me an email at mmstperformingartsacademy@gmail.com if you are interested in participating in the next workshop. We assign scenes ahead of time to give you a chance to learn the scene and come prepared to dive right in!

Again--I want to thank the great actors who participated in this month's seminar. It was a joy to work with all of you!

Our next voice class will be on Tuesday, Dec 18th at 7pm. If you'd like to participate, it is $20 for the 2 hour voice class. We will be singing Christmas music, of course! Please let me know via email if you'd like to participate so I can have enough music!

Acting The Crucible

Calling all actors!

For two nights only, we will explore scenes from Arthur Miller's The Crucible. Actors who sign up for the class will receive their scripts by November 1st so that they can prepare their scenes prior to the workshop.

On November 7th and November 14th from 7-10pm we will explore how to approach the character work.  Each actor will learn a number of tools in the scene study that will help you to better explore future parts.

The cost for this scene study is $50/actor.  Payment is due at the first class, November 7th. Classes will take place at
Midvale Main Street Theatre
7711 S Main Street (700 W)
Midvale, UT

In order to be considered for the class, please email us at mmstperformingartsacademy@gmail.com or contact Eve Speer on facebook before October 30th.

*We will choose scenes from The Crucible based on the actors we assemble for the class.

Successful Story Creating Workshop

Last week, we held our first story creating workshop.

Nathan Klingonsmith, Raven Flynn, Faith Johnson and London Flynn created an amazing story of intrigue and emotion as they told of a homeless magician named Steve, a law man Larry Knox, a runaway rich girl named Bri with a secret identity, and a lonely pink-haired waitress named Skye.

They sang beautifully, chose amazing costumes, wigs and hats, and designed make-up that worked best for their characters using their new Ben Nye make-up kits.

Currently, we are in the middle of the 5-Week Actors Seminar.

Stay tuned for more great educational opportunities!

Student Highlight: Rebecca Waite

Meet our newest voice student Rebecca Waite!

She has a beautiful mature voice. Every week she gets better and better.  It has been a lot of fun to get to know the great things she can do! Right now, we're working on songs from Wicked, South Pacific, and Next To Normal.

She is studying theatre in college and she is a volunteer at the Capitol Theatre.  She brings passion and talent to class every week and I can't wait to see her perform on the stage!

Voice Lessons

It is my privilege to teach amazing and talented vocal students. Some students are long term--other students take a few lessons preparing for upcoming auditions.

We have lessons at the theatre on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Each lesson is 45 minutes long. We work on vocalizes to strengthen the voice, learn songs that show off your strengths, and work on pieces that will expand your strengths. Sometimes we record your voice to mark improvement.  We work in the music room and on the stage whenever you need to work on performance techniques.

Lessons are only $20 for a 45 minute lesson.

Call today 385-743-8575 to set up your first private lesson!

Student Highlight: Trisha Dawn Messick

Trisha Dawn Messick is going to be a high school senior at Murray High School. She is energetic and extremely talkative. When she first started, her pitch wasn't always on, but her energy and her excitement about performing gave her performances a magical edge. It is impossible to not notice Ms. Trisha.

During the last couple of lessons, I noticed that her pitch was much more consistent. In addition, her energy and exuberance were more focused. Undeterred by nerves, she would put on a show--complete with focus, movement, and dynamic choices--every time she sang a song.

I am so impressed with her dedication and how far she has come over the short time I've been working with her. Congratulations Trisha on your amazing work! I'm so excited to see you continue to improve!

A New Beginning

We've had great artists come through the Midvale Main Street Theatre for the past few years, but we created this blog to help highlight how proud we are of the artists who are dedicating time to improving their talents and to help to inform our favorite actors, singers, and patrons of upcoming master classes, opportunities for lessons, and to brag about the developing talents here at the theatre!

So here it is--a new beginning in the middle of the year--in the middle of all the hub bub and the chaos. Nothing new to report--just a general nod at all the good things that are currently happening.

Right now, Holly Evans and I (Eve Speer) are offering voice lessons, acting lessons and guitar lessons for the low rate of $20 for 45 minutes.

I'm so proud of those who have taken the opportunity to take lessons and hone their gifts. It's been wonderful to see them improve. I am excited to use this forum as a means to highlight (embarrass) some of the most hardworking artists here at Midvale Main Street Theatre! Please come visit us often for updates!

We are looking forward to doing a masterclass for voice students in August and we are planning on holding a  week of classes just for young actors in August. Comment below if you'd like any information on upcoming opportunities!

In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you at RENT! It opens July 19th and runs thru August 4th.
